VCCI Businesswomen Council will cooperate with the Vietnam Women Union to organise a ceremony to honour and grant “Golden Rose” Award for outstanding businesswomen on March 8, 2007. This is the second year VCCI presents this award and coincides with the 10th National Women Representative Conference.

Vietnamese businesswomen take part in almost all fields of businesses, especially in traditional areas like garment, textile, handicraft, service, production and processing. Many women also work in male-biased sectors like banking, transportation and electronics.

More than 20 per cent of companies are now led by women, which are regarded rather high in comparison with the world average. It is said that it is a great effort of businesswomen because they do the housework, and take care of their families, lead their companies and do social works. To recognise their achievements and efforts, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) decided to honour outstanding female business leaders. Apart from the Golden Rose Cup, the VCCI will also grant certificate of merits to more than 100 outstanding female figures.

Ms Tran Thi Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of VCCI and Chairwoman of Vietnam Businesswomen Council, said the criteria to select outstanding businesswomen will mainly based on individual and collective successes.

As an individual, a businesswoman must strictly obey all State policies and actively take part in social works, she must be dynamic and creative in business administration and she must never stop improving their professional knowledge. Especially, she must be a good and prestigious exemplary for their staff and must be highly appreciated by local governments. The family factor is also a criterion for the selection and the responsibility to her family counts the points.

The organisers said the Award will also appreciate collective successes. A selected businesswoman must lead a revenue-increasing company in three consecutive years from 2004 to 2006. At the same time, her company must be a pioneer in renovating technologies and equipment, training human resources, paying taxes and ensuring a monthly income of at least VND2 million for her employees. Besides, her company must have the trade union, commodities for export, famous trademark and community contributions.

According to Vice State President Truong My Hoa, the Vietnamese Government advocates a policy to further encourage women to do business and the Golden Rose and certificates of merits are clear evidences for this policy.
