A crew from CNN, the most popular television channel in the world, has so far this month started filming the sights of Vietnam Tourism for a 30-second television commercial that will be broadcast on the international network.

The film making is under the deal signed between CNN and the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The video clip will be shot at Ha Long Bay, Hue city, Danang city, Hanoi and HCM City. It will focus on typical images of Vietnamese culture, landscape, and people.

As planned, creative director Veronica Phua, film director Lum Chee Kin, visual director Goh Meng Hing, manager Ong Tiong Huat and cameraman Kin Chuan would spend three days capturing the best of Vietnam’s most popular scenic attraction, places like Dau Go Cave, Thien Cung Cavern, Sung Sot Cave, Luon Cave, Trong Mai Rock, Ti-Top Island, and Cua Van Village.

Before arriving in Ha Long, the crew spent three days filming the sights of Hanoi like the late President Ho Chi Minh Museum, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ba Dinh Square, Mot Cot Pagoda, the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh’s house, Nguyen Tri Phuong Primary School, Hang Chieu Alley, Tran Quoc Pagoda, Guom Lake, the Temple of Literature (Vietnam’s first university) and the Hanoi Opera House.

The video clip will be broadcast on CNN early next month in 200 countries and territories twice daily for 13 weeks, mainly in peak viewing times.

Vietnam will pay around US$300,000 of expenses for tourism advertising on CNN instead of US$400,000 as initially planned, said Hoang Anh Tuan, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, revealing that it is the result of our successful negotiation with CNN.

This contract benefits both sides. Vietnam can advertise its tourism through CNN while CNN will know more about Vietnam tourism. That’s one way to help CNN have more audiences.
