Vietnam will not allow exporting titanium ore starting from 2009, aiming to meet the domestic demand, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has directed.

The government official also ordered provinces and cities to double check mineral mining, processing and export.

The Deputy PM wants punitive sanctions against illegal mining and to have improperly issued licenses withdrawn.

He asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to work out a roadmap for limiting exploration of some minerals, especially metals and fossil coal, and cutting mineral exports in the form of raw materials. (Vietnam Economic Times)
