Int'l Arrivals to VietnamBiggestCity Up 20 per cent in Q1

Ho Chi Minh City, the leading tourism hub of Vietnam welcomed 840,000 international arrivals in the first quarter of the year, representing a year-on-year increase of 20 per cent, state media said.
 
Among leading markets are the U.S., Japan, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, Canada, China, France, Singapore and Malaysia.
 
Air passengers made up most of the arrivals.
 
The municipal hospitality service also reported some VND6.7 trillion revenues in the period, posting a growth of 38 per cent. Hotel occupancy rates reached 85 per cent.
 
Out-bond tours attracted some 200,000 tourists from HCM City and neighboring provinces, representing an increase of 28 per cent over the same period last year. Favorite destinations are China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia.
 
Currently, HCM City has highest number of luxury hotels in Vietnam with 150 hotels, including ten five-star and four four-star hotels with 10,000 rooms. The city also reports 304 travel companies, including 120 licensed to provide outbound tours.
The city is expected to welcome 2.7 million international arrivals and earn VND19.5 trillion (US$1.21 billion) from tourism sector this year, up 14.8 per cent and 20 per cent respectively over last year.
 
The number of international tourists to Ho Chi Minh City now accounts for 55 per cent of Vietnam’s total number. (Vietnam & World Economy, VNA)
