Vietnam Capital Reports 356 Mln Tourism Revenues in First Quarter
Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, reported revenues of VND5.62 trillion (US$356 million) from tourism activities in the first quarter of this year, the local department of tourism said.
Of the figure, revenues from hotel and restaurant services accounted for VNDVND2.6 trillion (US$162.5 million). The department did not give out the comparative figures.
The city welcomed 1.9 million tourists in the reviewed period, up 5.7 per cent over the same period last year. Of them, 330,000 were international arrivals.
The department and local travel agencies have designed new tours such as sightseeing in combination with medical treatment, helicopter tours and tours to museums to the goal of attracting 7.66 million visitors, including 1.4 million foreign tourists, in 2008.
Hanoi is not only the tourism center but also tourist distribution center for Vietnam. At present, the number of foreign tourists to Hanoi accounts for 33 per cent of that of the whole country. (Economy & Urban Area)
