Saigontourist, a leading travel company in Vietnam, March 28 signed a contract with world giant AIG to grant entire travel insurance premiums to all of its foreign clients, state media has said.

The program, the first of its kind so far in Vietnam, will pay compensations to even victims of terror attacks, natural calamities and epidemics on a one-year term beginning on April 1, 2007.

The maximal compensations reach US$ 10.000 per client in each case, the Director of the Saigontourist Company, Vo Anh Tai said.

“It is one of the company's development schemes, aiming at boosting international links and alliances, especially with leading world partners, to bring the best available services for clients,” Tai added.

Vietnam is one of the most attractive destinations in the world and forecast a great potential of both domestic holiday makers and international tourists, the U.S.-based AIG-Vietnam CEO, Terence Anderson, said.

Terence Anderson, however, admitted that between 30 per cent and 40 per cent of Vietnamese tourists do not know or care whether their travel packages include tourism insurance or not. Tourists only purchase insurance only to fulfill visa requirements. (Investment)
