Vietnam’s transport sector will target to disburse VND20,000 billion next year, state media said Wednesday, quoting Minister of Transport Ho Nghia Dung.

Of the sum, VND10,000 billion will be raised from the government bonds, VND4.8 billion from Official Development Assistance (ODA) capital, and the remaining from State budget, the paper reported.

The figures were announced at a meeting in Hanoi on December 30 to review 2008 activities and launch new tasks for the next year with participation of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Transport Minister Ho Nghia Dung said the sector has worked out four solutions to attain the targets for 2009, including promoting administrative reform, solving capital difficulties for businesses and implementing an action plan against corruption.

The transport sector is aiming to increase goods transport by 9 per cent-10 per cent and passenger transport by 8 per cent-9 per cent over 2008.

PM Dung has required the ministry to pay attention to modifying the institutions and mechanism for capital construction, capital mobilization and traffic safety in line with the country’s current situation.

Dung said the sector should focus on bettering investment disbursement and create favorable conditions for businesses to invest into infrastructure projects.

Traffic safety continues to be a key task next year, with emphasis on aviation safety and road traffic accidents prevention, he added.

The PM also asked the sector to make greater efforts to improve transport services and accelerate equitisation.

As of late December this year, nearly VND8,000 billion worth of Government bonds, VND4,000 billion of foreign capital, and VND4,000 billion from other sources have been disbursed for transport projects in Vietnam. (Vietnam Economic Times)
