Vietnam Ranks 89th Worldwide in Tourism Competition
Vietnam ranks 89th among 133 nations and territories worldwide in terms of tourism competition, according to a report on global tourism competition 2009 announced at the World Economic Forum March 4, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported Friday.
The rating is seven steps higher than that of last year, it added.
Despite the improvement in the global tourism competition report, Vietnam only ranks higher than Cambodia in Southeast Asia, it also said.
Criteria for the ranking include tourism management and business, laws on tourism operation, safety, tourism infrastructure, price, and culture values and preservation.
Singapore is the only Asia nation named in the top-ten of the report.
Last year Vietnam failed the target of receiving 5 million international arrivals last year as it welcomed only 4.7 million arrivals and the non-smoke industry had revenues of VND56 trillion, or US$3.5 billion.
The country has set target of welcoming five million foreign and 21.5 million domestic tourists this year despite negative impacts of the global economic slowdown.
The non-smoke industry now generates jobs for 1.5 million people and contributes 8 per cent to Vietnam’s national GDP. (Youth)
