Vietnam Disburses US$1.4B FDI in Q1, Down 14 per cent On Year

Foreign investors are estimated to have disbursed US$1.44 billion in Vietnam in the first quarter, down 14 per cent on year, the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency said.
 
In March, US$270 million FDI was implemented, the agency.
 
The MPI said it will send two teams to inspect disbursement of FDI projects in central and southern Vietnam early next month, targeting to disburse US$11.5 billion this year.
 
Vietnam attracted total FDI capital of over US$6 billion in the first three months of 2009, down 40 per cent from a year ago.
 
In the three-month phase, the country licensed 93 new FDI projects worth roughly US$2.2 billion, down 52 per cent in project number and 56 per cent in value on-year respectively.
 
It also allowed 34 existing projects to add US$3.84 billion, down 61 per cent in project number but up 43 per cent in value from a year earlier.
 
In the reviewed period, FDI sector saw a 3.2 per cent growth in industrial production value, and their export revenues dropped by 13 per cent year on year, the MPI said. (Youth)
