The People's Committee of Quang Ninh province has held a press conference in Hanoi on March 25, 2009 to announce the Ha Long Tourism Festival 2009 and the Quang Ninh Trademark Expo 2009.
The festival is set to be opened April 25, 2009 to May 2, 2009 in the Bai Chay tourist site and in Ha Long city. The Ha Long Tourism Festival 2009 will highlight many remarkable events such as carnival, heritage meet festival and gastronomy festival. All festival activities are subjected to the theme “Halong Wonder – Rendezvous” and "Ha Long- Natural Wonder of the World."
At the press conference, Ms. Nhu Thi Hong Lien, Vice President of Quang Ninh People's Committee, said the festival activities are aimed at popularising cultural values and famous landscapes in Quang Ninh province and also enhancing the competitiveness of Quang Ninh’s tourism industry in the process of international integration.
"Another important significance of the Ha Long Tourism Festival 2009 is the festival of the exchange bearing the high spirit of integration between Ha Long - Quang Ninh with friends in the world," she emphasised.
In the weekly event, the heritage meeting festival will highlight sophisticated art performances by Vietnamese and international companies in a fanciful atmosphere and splendid night in Ha Long City. The event is a show for Vietnamese unique cultural, historical musical masterpieces such as Hue Royal Court Music and Central Highland Gong.
In addition, to remove shortcomings encountered last festival, Quang Ninh province will organise many cultural and sports events for tourists.
Apart from the tourism festival, Quang Ninh province will host an exhibition to show off brand names and images of Quang Ninh local products, images of culture in Ha Long and Quang Ninh, culinary cultures of northern provinces, performance arts of professional organizations in and outside provinces, culture festivals, sports events and tourism events in Quang Ninh, women’s international volleyball, tennis tournament, boat racing, dragon dance, unicorn dance, beautiful dance couples, folk games and national and international arts.
Box: Ha Long Bay is located in the North-East of Vietnam, in Quang Ninh province. The area of Ha Long Bay is about 1550km2 with more than 1600 islands in which 980 islands have been named. Ha Long Bay is an archipelago of stony islands. There are some islands grouping together in arrangements that inspire travellers to imagine. Travelling in Ha Long Bay and looking at thousands of amazing objects, you will have a feeling of being in a fairy land. Many stony islands were shaped by the Creator such as Canh Buom, Ga Choi, But, Thien Nga... Besides, Ha Long Bay also has many beautiful caves such as Thien Cung, Dau Go, Ung Sot, Tam Cung, Tien Cung, Me Cung... Ha Long Bay has a diversity of oceanic eco-system including 1000 species of fish 730 of which have been named, 160 species of coral, 140 kinds of seaweed and other oceanic plants.
Ha Long Bay is a scenic spot and a natural port which is convenient for ships to shelter. Ha Long Bay the habitat area of Vietnamese people along the country’s multimillenary history.
