The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade forecast the country will export around US$60 billion of goods in 2010, up 6% from a year earlier.

Vietnam will face an on-year export value fall of 10.65% to US$56.2 billion this year, the ministry said a meeting of the trade sector in Hanoi on Dec. 7.

This will be the first year Vietnam will see negative export growth since it opened up its economy in 1986.

In an effort to boost its exports, the government will spend VND250 billion (US$13.53 million) for the national trade promotion program in 2010, up 45% from a year earlier, the ministry noted.

The money will be allocated to 200 trade promotion programs, said the ministry. (chinhphu.vn)
