Over 50 years of building, developing and bringing into play the unyielding and undaunted tradition of the working class in coal-mining area, Cam Pha Forestry One-Member Limited Company always is the leading forestry firm in the northern province of Quang Ninh. Currently, the company has a stable material area with nearly 12,000 hectares, and plants thousands of hectares of new forest every year. In the first period, the company overcame difficulties and made profits; Cam Pha created jobs and improved the lives of thousands of local workers.
Cam Pha Forestry One-Member Limited Company was formerly known as Cam Pha Forestry. In 2006, the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province decided to convert Cam Pha Forestry into Cam Pha Forestry Company with 74 staff. The company was converted into Cam Pha Forestry One-Member Limited Company under Decision 1633/QD-UBND dated June 2, 2010 of the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province. The success in recent years shows that the company’s staff and General Director Nguyen Van Bac have tried to overcome difficulties.
After the 14th typhoon, General Director Nguyen Van Bac personally spent all day in the forest, collecting wood and replanting trees blown down by the storm. Mr Nguyen Van Bac lamented that typhoon 14 broke 986.3 hectares of plantation with estimated losses of about VND30 billion. Meanwhile, the plantation area was very low in 2008, salvage value was not much. Since the most recent storm, the company has mobilised workers and rented employers to collect the plantation area from 6 years and older worth of about VND10 billion. The wood prices were decreased while labour costs were high.
Before Cam Pha was assigned to manage nearly 12,000 hectares of forest land and abandoned land, planted forests are not managed. Formerly Cam Pha must face difficulties including the lack of capital and policy mechanisms. In 2008, appointed as a director, Mr Bac expanded investment some fields such as petrol, processing, and exports. The decision is considered a milestone marking the development of the company.
In 2010, the company expanded its production activities, built factory to manufacture wood chips for paper materials sourced from plantation forests with capacity between 90,000 tonnes of wood chips and 115,000 tonnes of wood chips per year and opened petrol station-level 2. After building the wood chips manufacturing factory, the company signed an agreement to sell wood chips with Japan-based DAIO Paper Corporation. Production models including planting, caring, protecting, exploiting wood from plantation and processing sawn timber for basic construction, wood chips for paper materials and wood services provided for coal mines have created jobs for 77 staff of the company with stable incomes. The company also created hundreds of jobs for local people including ethnic minorities and mountain farmers in the area and contributed to poverty reduction and new rural construction. The company contributed to the state budget and its revenue rose to VND166 billion in 2011 from VND42 billion in 2010.
The company’s business activities become increasingly stable. Between 2008 and 2011, the company held the leading position in agricultural and rural development sector in Quang Ninh province, with a clean and strong party unit and a strong trade union, and was granted the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour emulation flag in 2011.
The company’s management board makes stable development plans in the coming time such as the initiative in labour, irrespective of the loan, cooperation in plantation in conjunction with the professional social work for forest products, seeking capital to invest in plantation, boosting stable workers-farmers relationships, application of scientific and technical advances in production management, continue planting venture, contracting all kinds of work in the production, recruitment of qualified labour. In order to improve the quality of human resources, the company focused on building a team of leaders, managers, interested in planning, training and retraining of staff.
With plantation model combined with business, Cam Pha Forestry One-Member Limited Company initially achieved success and created conditions for many workers in the area to plant forests, including poor households. This contributed to the company’s profit and plantation households and created jobs for local people.
