Vietnam-Netherlands Maritime Partnership
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) co-operated with the Holland Marine Equipment to organise a meeting between Vietnamese and Dutch maritime enterprises. This was within a visit to Vietnam by 16 trade enterprises from the Netherlands, who are leaders in fire-proof and water-resistant materials for cables, pipes and propellers, and freezing equipment for the shipbuilding industry. Martin Bloem, managing director of the Holland Marine Equipment, said that more Dutch enterprises visited Vietnam in 2005. In the coming time, Holland Marine Equipment will plan to concentrate on the Vietnamese market.
Many member enterprises of the corporation pay attention to the Vietnamese shipbuilding market. Holland Marine Equipment is developing plans to reduce constraints to its member enterprises to explore the Vietnamese market. The corporation is negotiating with Vietnam about the application of knowledge and technology progress for mutual benefits.
Do Thi Hong An from the Dutch embassy in Vietnam, said that in recent years, two-way trade exchange between Vietnam and the Netherlands had seen a rapid increase. In 2004, Vietnam earned US$117 million from its export to the Netherlands and spent US$515 million importing machines and accessories, fertilisers and medical products from the country. Vietnam’s major exports include footwear, textiles and garments, coffee and seafood.
The Netherlands has invested US$1.835 billion in Vietnam, ranking third among European countries in terms of investment in Vietnam.
