Within a co-operation framework with the Public Private Partnership on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the Germany Retailers’ Association and the Germany Technical Co-operation Agency, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has organised round-table conferences on promoting dialogues and co-operation for enforcing CSR at enterprises between September 2004 and January 2006.

The conferences aimed of improving the awareness of the community about CSR between the Government, organisations, research institutes, business associations, enterprises and donors.
After four conferences on ‘Interests and challenges when implementing social standards,’ ‘Promoting labourers’ involvement in implementing CSR at enterprises,’ ‘Using the evaluation and certification for helping enterprises enforce CSR,’ and ‘Helping small and medium-sized enterprises to implement social standards at low costs,’ VCCI organised the fifth conference on ‘Improving public awareness by maintaining dialogues on CSR’ in Hanoi on January 5, 2006. The conference aimed of studying opinions about CSR of relevant sides, identifying the role of social dialogues on the implementation of the Labour Code and measures of relevant sides to take to maintain and develop social dialogues about the issues.
Nguyen Quang Vinh, director of VCCI’s VBLI project, said that when the public had a clear awareness about CSR, it will help enterprises implement CSR during enterprises’ existence and development. Therefore, the conference was of great importance, in particular when Vietnam was exerting efforts to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
