The room occupancy rate of five-star hotels in Hanoi is forecast to have reached 52 per cent so far this year, down 10 per cent compared to the same period of last year, according to a market survey by property service company CBRE.

This is attributed to a sharp decrease in the number of tourists and foreign businessmen amid the global turmoil in spite of room prices are cut down to US$139 a night on average, down 14 per cent on-year.

CBRE Managing Director Richard Leech suggested that five-star hotels need to lower room rate to maintain the occupancy rate of 65 per cent of 2008.

The capital city is forecast to have 1,800 more rooms at four-five star hotels between 2009 and 2011.
