Vietnam gained US$295 million from exporting 118,000 tons pepper in the first ten months of 2009, up 6.4% in value and 49% in volume against the same period last year, the government’s General Statistical Office said.

Falling export prices trimmed Vietnamese pepper export value despite a strong rise in volume. Between January and Oct, export price of Vietnamese pepper averaged at US$2,500 per ton, down 28.6% from a year earlier.

In Oct, Vietnam is estimated to export 10,000 tons pepper valued US$31 million, down 9.1% in volume and 6.1% in value compared to the previous month (GSO Oct Edition)
