The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) forecast prices of essential goods will continue increasing through the year-end due to the increasing domestic demand and prices of input materials.

In an effort to prevent goods speculation or irrational price hikes from now to end-2009, the ministry has urged market watchdogs across Vietnam to scrutinize goods trading stores, especially their selling price listing, according to Deputy Minister Bui Xuan Khu.

In early December, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged ministries, agencies and localities nationwide to join hands to stabilize prices of essential goods and to ensure sufficient commodities for the coming Lunar New Year, or Tet festival

The cabinet leader also requested the abovementioned agencies to revise their management on socio-economic development and take measures to boost production and trading activities and stabilize the domestic market. (Labor)
