Activities Mark Entrepreneurs' Day

To celebrate the first Entrepreneurs’ Day, October 13, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry conducted many activities in localities nationwide, apart from the biggest event held on the evening of October 12 at Hanoi Opera House in Hanoi.
 
Northern Hung Yen province
In Hung Yen province, the province’s Business Association organised a meeting to mark Entrepreneurs’ Day with the participation of over 150 entrepreneurs, representing around 1,200 local enterprises. Over the past number of years, a multi-sectorial economy has formed in Hung Yen province with many entrepreneurs, who have made great contributions to the province’s socio-economic development. By September, 2005, Hung Yen province had had 239 private enterprises, 574 limited companies, 113 joint stock companies, with a total registered capital of VND 4,373 billion. The province has attracted 410 projects, including 354 domestic projects and 56 foreign-invested projects, capitalised at US$1.123 billion. So far, 16 projects have become operational. Local enterprises have increased their production value from VND 355 billion to VND 7,630 billion in 2005, or 26.7 per cent per year on average. They contribute 70 per cent of the province’s budget revenues and occupy 90 per cent of the province’s export turnover. They have generated jobs for over 90,000 local people, thus making a contribution to the province’s economic restructuring with a focus on industrialisation and modernisation.
 
It is reported that the Hung Yen Business Association has completed its project on selecting and presenting the ‘Pho Hien Gold Cup,’ an annual prize for local businesses and entrepreneurs, who record outstanding results in their activities.
 
Central Da Nang City
In Da Nang, on October 13, 2005, the People’s Committee of Da Nang and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Da Nang branch, held a meeting with over 150 local entrepreneurs. In recent years, Da Nang has issued many policies on mechanisms to encourage local enterprises to promote their investment in production and business activities. The Da Nang People’s Committee has established a research group on ‘Credit Guarantee Fund’ and the ‘Small and Medium-sized Enterprises’ Association’ to provide support for local small and medium-sized enterprises. In the first nine months of 2005, Da Nang granted licences to 23 projects with a total capital of VND 778 billion. The local People’s Committee has issued a rule for presenting the ‘Outstanding Enterprise’ and ‘Outstanding Director’ awards to honour enterprises and entrepreneurs who have gained good results in business and production activities, thus contributing to the city’s development.
Central highlands Lam Dong Province
In Lam Dong on October 12 and 13, 2005, an exhibition was held to introduce products by young entrepreneurs in Lam Dong. The event was organised by the Lam Dong Young Entrepreneurs’ Association to honour the contributions made by local entrepreneurs to the province’s socio-economic development, and their efforts to help each other in production and business development. The association co-operated with Lam Dong Radio and Television to organise a forum for entrepreneurs and local authorities. This was an opportunity for local enterprises to exchange their ideas with local authorities about the province’s support policies extended to them. On October 13, the Young Entrepreneurs’ Association organised a ceremony to honour young entrepreneurs and presented awards to oustanding young entrepreneurs of Lam Dong province.
 
 
Ho Chi Minh City
In Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Trade, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Ho Chi Minh City branch, and the Ho Chi Minh City Entrepreneurs’ Association organised many activities to mark the Entrepreneurs’ Day. The first fair themed ‘Honouring enterprises’ was held to introduce the development of enterprises in various periods of time. This was also an opportunity for enterprises to promote their products and services to consumers and partners, thus helping them boost their economic and trade co-operation. The fair was held in the Tao Dan Cultural Park from October 7-13 with 300 pavilions. Ho Hao Hon, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Entrepreneurs’ Association, said that the event would be organised annually, on October 13 to mark the Entrepreneurs’ Day.

Also, a photograph exhibition themed ‘Enterprises and entrepreneurs in the international integration process’ at the fair introduced outstanding activities of enterprises and entrepreneurs via 100 photographs. More importantly, the fair organisers voted Saigon’s outstanding entrepreneurs, who have recorded good results in business activities, business organisation, law observation, and social and community activities. Candidates are directors, business owners, who are responsible before the law for enterprises’ activities and work for centrally or locally-run enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City.
