Vietnam Earns US$145M from Tea Export in Jan-Oct
Vietnam exported 111,000 tons of tea worth US$145 million in the Jan-Oct period, up 23% in volume and 14.3% in value from a year earlier, the government’s General Statistical Office said.
In Oct, local companies shipped 15,000 tons of tea abroad, earning US$20 million, up 7.1% in value and 5.3% in value compared to previous month.
Vietnam targets to export 117,000 tons of tea valued at US$167 million in 2009. 95% of Vietnam’s exported tea is raw tea.
Export prices of Vietnamese tea are half of the world’s average prices though the Southeast Asian country is the fifth biggest tea exporter. Vietnamese tea is offered at around US$1,100/ton while average tea prices on the world market are US$2,200/ton.
