Kien Giang Trade Promotion Centre: Helping Enterprises Expand Markets
Set up in early 2002, the Kien Giang Trade Promotion Centre (KITRA) has provided information regarding the socio-economic situation and investment opportunities on their website, in order to help investors access potential markets in the province.
Information technology application
Last year, KITRA provided general information and data about trade, tourism and investment in Kien Giang province with a focus on up-to-date information about markets and major goods of the province. The centre also built a website for trade promotion in Kien Giang. At the same time, KITRA worked with ASEM Connect, the information centre of the Ministry of Trade to launch information about Kien Giang province on ASEM Connect’s website, which is a meeting place for seeking partners and markets for enterprises from ten Asian and 15 European countries. The centre has published trade, tourism and investment bulletins, and released CDs about Kien Giang’s potential to departments, agencies and enterprises in the province. Furthermore, KITRA helped the Ha Tien Trade and Tourism Promotion Centre (HATOTRA) design and build a website to introduce the town in the Internet. The centre has also promoted itself on the ‘Vietnamese trademark’ website.
Trade promotion and enterprise support boosted
KITRA has created showrooms and promoted enterprise in the province and other localities via meetings and seminars. Last year, this activity attracted seven enterprises and production establishments, including four seafood producing enterprises, one agricultural and two handicraft enterprises. The centre organised a delegation of more than 30 enterprises in the Mekong Delta to promote trade and investment in Phu Quoc. Also, the centre co-operated with the People’s Committee of Ha Tien Town, HATOTRA, and the Vietnam-China Company to send enterprises in Kien Giang province and other localities to
Last year, KITRA co-operated with the Ho Chi Minh City Trade and Investment Centre to organise a ‘Trademark and Integration’ seminar with the participation of 40 enterprises. Also, the centre co-operated with the German Technical Co-operation Agency (GTZ), the European Business Information Centre (EBIC) and the Business Information Centre (BIZIC) of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to organise a training course on ‘Skills for obtaining and providing business information’ with the involvement of more than 40 departments, agencies and enterprises. KITRA also provided a training programme on ‘Promoting business knowledge’ to help small and medium-sized enterprises in Kien Giang province access modern business management skills, providing them with knowledge about the expansion of production and business, with the participation of more than 20 enterprises. At the same time, the centre helped the local association of commerce and industry to organise meetings and conferences, develop a membership base, and publish information on KITRA’s trade and investment, a tourism bulletin and a website.
In the future, KITRA plans to continue to promote its co-operation with domestic and foreign trade and investment organisations, helping enterprises develop international programmes to promote their exports and attract investors for economic development. It will also provide support for local enterprises to attend training courses, seminars and symposiums to help them improve their management skills, and their access to information technology and e-commerce.
