Quang Ninh Province Reports Tourism Revenues up 75 per cent in First Half of 2005

The hospitality sector in northern coastal Quang Ninh province gained revenue of VND507.6 billion (US$32.1 million) in the first half of this year, a surge of 75 per cent on the same period last year.

The figures were attributed to the hike in the number of visitors during the months, which were reported at 1.49 million, including 612,000 foreign arrivals, up 21.5 per cent and 33 per cent, respectively, said an official from the local Tourism Service.

The statistics help Quang Ninh remain second among the nations top destinations - followed Ho Chi Minh City but surpassing Hanoi - in terms of attracting international visitors.

According to Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Vu Nguyen Nhiem, Quang Ninh has issued a number of open policies to lure more investors into local tourism sites and encourage travel companies to open new tours to destinations.

In the near future, the local sector will focus on enhancing the overall planning for the tourism sector, diversifying tourism products and developing human resources and targeting a strong and sustainable tourism growth.

Quang Ninh, 150 km north of Hanoi, is home to Halong Bay, one of Vietnam’s five UNESCO-recognized World Heritage Sites. Quang Ninh, Haiphong and Hanoi form the large potential tourism triangle of Vietnam’s north.
