More than 100 enterprises are displaying their products at a tourism and trade fair, which kicked off on December 6 in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang bordering Cambodia.

The event aims to boost cross-border trade and tourism cooperation between Mekong Delta provinces and the neighboring Cambodian provinces of Kampot, Ta Keo and Sihanoukville.

Travel agencies participating in this first ever border and tourism fair in Kien Giang also hope to set up tours linking Vietnam's Mekong Delta and Cambodian provinces.

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and neighboring Cambodia is expected increase to $1 billion in 2006, up 66.6 per cent against 2005, according to the forecast released on November 1 by the Vietnamese Ministry of Trade.

The two countries expect their trade to mount to $2 billion in 2010.

Kien Giang, home to Vietnam’s largest Island of Phu Quoc, is also taking steps to improve and develop tourist areas and main roads between the province and locations in Cambodia and Thailand.
