The first Thailand retail trade fair will open in Hanoi of Vietnam from June 14-17, 2007, aiming to tout Vietnamese consumers, local media reported.

Paniti Uthairat, Thailand’s Trade Counselor to Vietnam, said the event is the first step of a trade promotion campaign for Thai retail goods in the country.

Around 45 Vietnam’s Thai goods importers will join the fair in the Vietnam Culture and Arts Exhibition Center, in addition to the participation of some enterprises attending “Thai Goods Selling” week held in April in Ho Chi Minh City.

The fair will display Thai high-quality goods, including textiles and garments, electrical and electronic appliances, foods, drinks, fruits, cosmetics, home appliances, auto and motorbike spare parts and decorations.

The Commerce Office under the Thai Embassy in Hanoi, the Export Promotion Department under the Thai Trade Ministry and Vietnam’s VINEXAD Co. will jointly organize the event.

Vietnam-Thailand two-way trade was estimated to reach trade of US$3.7 billion by the end of 2006. The two ASEAN countries are exploring measures to raise the bilateral trade value to US$5-6 billion in 2010. (Trade)
