The central coastal province of Binh Thuan has handed out a license to South Korean investor Oh Chan Geun to develop a golf course, villa and hotel complex worth US$90 million in Tan Thang Commune, Ham Tan District.

The project, which is said to be the biggest in the province, covers 300 hectares. It will comprise a 36-hole golf course, a villa compound, a trade center, a four-star hotel of 150 rooms, a sport area, a health care service center to cater its guests, and other facilities.

The golf course will take the biggest part with around 200 hectares.

Work on the project will commence in the middle of next year with the golf course and villa area built in the first stage and the whole complex completed by 2015.

The individual investor had established a company named Sun Resort Vina Co., Ltd. in Vietnam to develop the project.

Binh Thuan is one of the most bustling eco-tourism destinations in south-central Vietnam with hundreds of tourism projects committed. However, many resorts are quite small with area of less than two hectares and their services fail to meet guests’ demand.

The province has licensed some big FDI tourism projects like Novotel Ocean Dunes and Golf Resort with total investment of US$26.3 million.

Meanwhile, A U.S. investor is preparing to submit the detailed scheme for a US$50-mil project, which will cover 600 hectares in Bac Binh District, to the provincial authorities late this year.

Last year, the province received 1.55 million tourists, up 24 per cent year-on-year, of whom international tourists made up nearly 10 per cent, with tourism revenue amounting to VND800 billion, up 31 per cent on 2005.

The province expects to welcome around 1.8 million tourists this year and the sector is forecast to obtain 2007 revenue of around VND1 trillion. (VietNamNet)
