Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has recently urged northern central Thanh Hoa province to speed up construction of cement plant projects to become a large cement production center in Vietnam, VietNamNet reported.

The government leader made the recommendation while working with local authorities on socio-economic development measures for 2008, following his field-trip to the Nghi Son Economic Zone, the Nghi Son Port, the Cong Thanh Cement Plant and other economic – cultural works in the province.

Thanh Hoa is housing two big cement factories, namely Bim Son and Nghi Son, which are running production lines with capacities of 2.15 million tons and 1.8 million tons a year, respectively. Both are carrying out projects to double their capacity in the near future.

Dung also requested that the province focus on improving its investment environment to mobilize and make full use of all resources to ensure high and sustainable economic growth.

Last year, Thanh Hoa province obtained an industrial production growth of 20 per cent. Its export value was recorded at US$170.5 million and the rate of poor household was reduced by 3.6 per cent. (VietNamNet)
