Vietnam is likely to fulfill its set target at US$1.5 billion from rubber exports in 2008 thanks to high export prices, the Vietnam Rubber Association forecast.

Experts say that rubber processors and growers will make a big profit this year as it costs them only US$1,800 to produce a ton of rubber.

Meanwhile, export prices of Vietnamese rubber have kept soaring from early August 2008 to US$3,012 a ton on average, up US$181 a ton from a month earlier, according to figures from the Vietnam Trade Information Centre.

Prices of SVR3L rose by US$127 a ton from early July to US$3,238; SVR10 prices by US$154 a ton to US$2,887; and SVRCV60 prices up US$510 a ton to US$3,295. Export prices of rubber latex also increased by US$210 a ton on month.

Vietnam exported 306,000 tons of rubber in the first seven months of 2008, earning US$804 million, down 13.4 per cent on year in volume but up 20.5 per cent in value.

Currently, southeastern, central highland and other central regions are harvesting rubber. (VNA, Vinanet)
