Vietnam’s apparel industry raked in more than $1 billion from its export to the U.S. in the first quarter of this year, an on-year increase of 2%, despite a decrease of 4% on year in volume, said Nguyen Van Son, Deputy General Secretary of Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association.

Vietnamese apparel products still accounted for 5% of the U.S.’s total garments and textiles imports, Son added.

In April, U.S. importers resumed their orders with Vietnamese suppliers, contributing to raise the country’s apparel export value during the four-month period to $2.59 billion, up 1.8% on year.

Vietnam became one of four countries worldwide to see a growth in apparel exports in the first four months while other major apparel exporters suffered much higher decreases due to the global economic slowdown, including China with an on-year reduction of 11%, Son said. (VOV News)
