Vietnam is estimated to have spent $5.76 billion on importing 11.864 million metric tons of petroleum products in the first eleven months of this year, down 45.3% in value and up 0.6% in volume from a year earlier, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said.
The country imported 800,000 metric tons of the products worth $460 million in November, up 1.39% and up 23.66% from a year earlier, respectively, the office said.
The Southeast Asian nation is estimated to have spent $389 million on importing 709,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and bought $479 million worth of oil products between Jan and Nov.
The drop in imports of petroleum products in the 11-month period is attributed to the fact that Vietnam’s first oil refinery Dung Quat produced a total of 935,938 tons of products from its first operation on Feb. 22 through Nov. 17 and it has sold 803,387 tons of the products. (GSO)
