Japan, France Fund Climate Change Response in Vietnam

On June 18, Mr Tran Xuan Ha, Vietnamese Deputy Finance Minister, Mr Motonori Tsuno, Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Office and Mr Alain Henry, Director of AFD Vietnam signed an agreements for the “Support programme to respond to climate change” (SP-RCC). This was part of a co-financed programme of JICA and AFD.
 
Accordingly, Japan contributes 10 billion yen (around US$110 million) and AFD contributes EUR20 million (around US$24 million) to help Vietnam tackle climate change.
 
This is the 18th year in a row Japan has granted the official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam, totalling over US$1,440 billion yen (US$15 billion plus). This is also the 16th year AFD has been present in Vietnam and funded the country with over EUR1.1 billion.
