Int’l Cacao Conference to Open in Ben Tre

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said the International Cacao Conference is set to take place in Ben Tre province on December 3 and 4, 2011. The event is expected to boost information, knowledge and expertise sharing as well as deepen ’s relations with cacao growing nations.


Among 400 delegates and guests expected to attend the meeting include representatives from 14 cacao-growing provinces in Vietnam as well as international delegates and companies from the Netherlands, Russia, America, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, Singapore, the Philippines, China, Ghana and Brazil.


The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said ’s cacao area in increased from 1,200 ha in 2005 to over 16,000 ha at present. However, domestic cacao is now just simply processed. Incomes of cacao growers have steadily increased on rising prices on global markets.


The ministry also approved the cacao development project from now to 2015, vision to 2020. According to the plan, ’s cacao area will be expanded to 60,000 ha by 2015, which can yield 52,000 tonnes of dry nuts and bring in export revenues of US$50 -60 million.
