PM Approves Project Supporting Development of Quang Tri Province

The Government's Office on September 29 issued Decision No. 192/TB-VPCP announcing the decision of the Prime Minister on the development of the central province of Quang Tri after considering the petitions of leaders from the province, ministries and industries.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister Phan Van Khai agreed to develop Lao Bao Commercial Zone, Khe Sanh and Lao Bao towns and five other communes in the Quang Tri Province into new urban areas along the Ho Chi Minh national backbone road. The Prime Minister also approved a project to build the Cua Viet-Cua Tung-Con Co Island eco-tourism resort, authorising the province to develop Con Co into a tourism island.

Mr. Khai also approved in principle the construction of the new Cua Viet urban area, located in the north of Dong Ha Town on a total area of 15 square kilometres and the construction of Quang Tri Cement Plant, which is capable of producing 1.4 million tonnes of cement per annum.
