Mr Eberhard van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam, led a business delegation to Hanoi from 8 to 11 December, aiming to engage in deeper cooperation in fields such as urban planning, water management, energy and waste treatment.
Mayor Eberhard van der Laan and Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen The Thao signed a Memorandum of Understanding featuring cooperation in several fields. In Hanoi both leaders discussed ways to build prosperous and livable cities.
During the visit, Mayor Van der Laan attended an exhibition on Anne Frank held at the Hanoi- Amsterdam high school. Mayor Van der Laan talked with young students on the heritage of Anne Frank’s war diary and related the message of peace to the story of Vietnamese Dang Thuy Tram. The Mayor also spoke with alumni who studied in Amsterdam or studied urban planning in the Netherlands.
