Vinh Phuc province has strived to become an industrial province by 2020 with the share of industry making up over 60 per cent of the GDP and become a centre of automobile, motorcycle and supporting industries of Vietnam. With the advent of major manufacturers such as Honda, Toyota and Yamaha, Vinh Phuc has become a prime destination for world-leading vehicle manufacturers. Therefore, the province has introduced various mechanisms and policies on development of ancillary industries.
Vinh Phuc province set up some specialised complexes for vehicle parts manufacturing such as mirrors, glass, chairs, radio, electric wires, inner tubes, tyres, batteries and heat foams. However, evaluation, low processing technologies of engineering companies, unsustainable cooperation among manufacturers, low-quality human resources and incomplete infrastructure systems such as roads, power grid and water supply system impede the development of supporting industries in particular and the industry in general. Therefore, to develop the province’s supporting industries consistent with its potential and advantages, on July 5, 2016, the Vinh Phuc Provincial People’s Committee approved a scheme on encouraged development of supporting industries in 2016 - 2020, with a vision to 2030. Accordingly, the scheme states major measures for development of supporting industries like raising the awareness of all levels of government, all sectors and the whole society to build the general consensus in carrying out its contents, applying mechanisms and policies on encouraged development of supporting industries, mobilising investment capital for development of supporting industries, increasing the amount of investment capital for supporting industries, strengthening the cooperation among parts manufacturing companies and developing export markets; developing science and technology for development of supporting industries.
Other contents include raising the quality of human resources for supporting industries, speeding up and modernising infrastructure system to facilitate the development of supporting industries in parallel with implementing measures to quicken administrative procedure reform, access to land and resources in support of more favourable conditions for investment projects.
The approved scheme also specifies development plans for each industry and each sub-sector, such as supporting industries for automobile and motorcycle manufacturing and assembling, mechanical engineering industries for electronics and information technology manufacturing, supporting industries for textile - garment - footwear production, and supporting industries for construction material production.
Specifically, for supporting industries for automobile and motorcycle manufacturing and assembling, the province will focus on attracting investment capital and new technologies from multinational conglomerates.
As for mechanical engineering industry, the province will focus on developing sectors to manufacture and assemble machines and equipment for agro-forestry sector, construction engineering, consumer engineering and other sectors.
As for supporting industries for electronics and information technology, the province will focus on manufacturing and assembling IT devices (such as computers, printers, computer components) and producing software.
As for supporting industries for textile-garment - footwear production, the province will focus on drawing investment capital into component projects such as yarn, cotton sheets, and plastic buttons.
As for supporting industries for building material production, the province will encourage and attract domestic and foreign investment capital into research, design and production of new building materials, light, unfired materials.
With appropriate directions and policies on development of supporting industries, Vinh Phuc province has strived to have modern supporting industries by 2020, produce and supply of components, deliver maintenance and repairing services in Vinh Phuc and neighbouring provinces. The province will take further steps to boost exports and engage in international production chains.
