Work on US$80 million five-star hotel started in Hanoi on June 30, a project to help ease the shortage of tourist lodgments in the city.
The hotel, to be operated by Charmvit of South Korea, is located close to the National Convention Center and a number of new residential developments.
The facilitate will include two 27-story twin towers with total floor space of over 150,000 sq.m, housing a conference hall, shops, a swimming pool and restaurants from the first to fourth floors. The hotel will occupy the fifth to 27th floors and be home to 630 rooms and a complex of offices for lease.
The project, one of four five-star hotels to be built in Hanoi this year, is expected to be completed by July 2009.
Statistics show that Hanoi has over 500 hotels/motels available to travelers, totaling more than 12,700 rooms. Eight hotels are ranked five-star, six four-star and nearly 20 three-star.
By 2010, Hanoi will be short of 13,000 hotel rooms, especially in 3-star and 5-star accommodations, if the expected international visitor arrivals are forecast to reach two million.
