The capital city of Hanoi greeted 6.67 million of tourists in 2007, including some 1.3 million foreign visitors and exceeding 0.1 per cent of the set target, the municipal tourism department said.
Topping the list of visitors were China, Thailand, Malaysia, the U.S. and Australia, it added.
The city posted an on year rise of 7.5 per cent in revenue to VND15 trillion (US$937.5 million) last year.
Hanoi now boasts 34 hotels ranked 3-5 stars, which meet only 70 per cent of international tourist demand during “hot” tourism seasons.
The department and local travel agencies have designed new tours such as sightseeing in combination with medical treatment, helicopter tours and tours to museums to the goal of attracting 7.66 million visitors, including 1.4 million foreign tourists, in 2008.
At present, the number of foreign tourists to Hanoi accounts for 33 per cent of that of the whole country. (VNA, Vietnam Panorama)
