Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI ) on March 2 changed the functions and responsibilities of its representative office in northern Thanh Hoa province into VCCI Thanh Hoa Branch and launched the branch’s office building.
Dr. Vu Tien Loc - VCCI President, Mr. Trinh Van Chien - Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa People’s Committee, and leaders of the province’s authorities, business associations and enterprises in Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh provinces attended the launching ceremony.
VCCI President stressed that the achievements were resulted in great efforts of the representative office’s leaders and staff after 8 years of operation, since September 2000, as well as close cooperation and support from State authorities and the business community in the localities. The positive changes also mean VCCI Thanh Hoa needs to further diversify activities to provide more support and trade promotions to enterprises in the coming time, meet requirements of enterprises, enhance the competitiveness of local enterprises, especially deal with the bad impacts from the global economic downturn, Dr. Loc said.
The branch’s leaders should closely cooperate with leaders of the two provinces of Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh to create a breakthrough in improving the business and investment environment, particularly administrative reform, he proposed.
At the ceremony, VCCI also admitted 52 new member companies, bringing the total number of VCCI members in Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh provinces to 650.
VCCI Thanh Hoa has granted around 8,000 C/O certificates for Vietnamese exports so far, organized 60 investment and trade promotion meetings and conferences, around 15-20 training courses for management officers of enterprises annually, and gathered ideas and proposals of the business communities to improve the business environment in the provinces.
According to Mr. Trinh Van Chien, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa People’s Committee, VCCI Thanh Hoa has had important contributions in assisting enterprises and developing the number of enterprises in the province, supporting the province’s relevant authorities to raise the transparency of administrative procedures in the fields of investment, land leasing, mineral survey and exploitation, and others, to create favorable conditions for investors. Thanh Hoa increased number of enterprises and co-operatives from only 600 ones in 2000 to 5,454 by the end of 2008, contributing VND1,125 billion (US$64.28 million) to the State budget and accounting for 58.3% of the province’s total budget revenue.
Mr. Nguyen Van De, President of Thanh Hoa Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, said VCCI Thanh Hoa has been active in uniting entrepreneurs, helping them find out new markets, train human resources, and expand production and business activities.
