Like businesses elsewhere, Vietnamese businesses especially those in Central Vietnam have been affected by the world financial crisis and economic recession. To help businesses, VCCI Da Nang has increased its activities in training of managers and workers, legal consulting and serving as the bridge between business community and local authorities.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cuong, Director of VCCI Da Nang, most of businesses in Da Nang, small and medium in size and weak in competitiveness, are seriously affected by monetary restriction and high inflation. While larger enterprises exporting garment, aquatic products and wooden products are faced with lower purchasing power of US and EU markets since late 2008. The situation becomes more difficult for already weak business community in Central Vietnam.
In such circumstances, VCCI Da Nang has organized more seminars on business transaction, added value tax, income tax (amended law), tax management Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, etc. In conjunction with local authorities, it has also organized workshops on enterprise law, investment law and commercial law in Kontum, Phu Yen and four conferences to remove constraints and facilitate business environment in the region.
Human resources development has been the high priority of Da Nang VCCI, Mr. Cuong said. In 2008, 54 training courses were organized for the business community, 112.5 percent more than previous year, in all parts of Central Vietnam including the Highlands. Among them are training courses for CEO, CFO (financial officers), project managers. As the training took place in the same region, it cost less with the same quality.
In 2009, VCCI Da Nang will make greater effort to increase 120 new members, organize two business delegations for market survey in the US and EU and in cooperation with diplomatic missions promote trade and investment with UK, Japan, Canada, Russia, Mongolia, Hong Kong and Ma Cao.
In addition, VCCI Da Nang has also facilitated business activities with certificates of origin (C/O), replies to foreign customs, on-line consulting and training on C/O in Da Nang and Binh Dinh. It has cooperated with VCCI Haiphong in business matchmaking and providing market information to promote long-term partnership between two business communities. VCCI Da Nang has introduced 20 women entrepreneurs to Summit of Women Entrepreneurs and organized successfully Membership Conference of Central Vietnam and the Highlands. It has also helped FDI enterprises in implementation of Vietnamese law on Vietnamese employees.
Far from satisfaction, Mr. Cuong believed with in difficult time, VCCI Da Nang will make greater efforts in 2009 to create comparative advantages to increase business efficiency and competitiveness of Da Nang business community.
