The Second International Telecom Summit (Vietnam Telecom 2009) will take place in Hanoi from May 19-21 with participation of around 250 businesses and 30 speakers and experts from the IT sector to discuss the nation’s IT and telecom development in the 2011-2020 period.
The participants will discuss plans to develop fixed broadband networks, mobile and broadband services as well as effective business models for mobile and fixed services of new generations.
The annual Vietnam Telecom Summit aims to enhance local and foreign investors’ understanding about Vietnam’s investment opportunities, said Le Doan Hop, Minister of Information and Communications.
This is a good chance for Vietnamese and international telecom firms to seek cooperation opportunities for the development of Vietnam’s telecom market, he said.
Vietnam Telecom 2009 will be jointly held by the National Institute of Information and Communications Strategy and Beacon Events with the assistance of VNPT, Viettel, Saigon Postel and Hanoi Telecom.
Vietnam is one of the countries posting the highest telecom growth rate in the world, according to the International Telecom Union. By end-March, the nation had 86.8 million telephone subscribers, 6.7 million Internet subscribers with nearly 21 million users, making up 24.5 per cent of the population. (Vietnamnet)
