Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi is preparing for the second stage of its water drainage project after Japan pledged to provide US$277.5 million in ODA for the project.

The city authorities will seek contractors for seven contract packages within the project including reservoirs, canals, ditches, rivers and two wastewater treatment stations, Le Van Cuong, director of the project management board director said.

Japan has agreed to provide ODA aids to help solve waterlog and flooding in a 77.5-square-kilometer area stretching from the To Lich River to the Red River, Cuong said.

Hanoi has asked Japan to provide financial assistances to implement a drainage plan in the Nhue River area and build big-scale wastewater treatment factories.

Last year, the capital city saw a historic flood. (Young People)
