City authorities in Hanoi recently decided to inject VND150 billion (US$8.42 million) into building 18 overpasses for pedestrians through early 2010.
Hanoi is now home to four overpasses on such streets as Nguyen Van Cu, Giai Phong, Nguyen Chi Thanh and Cau Giay.
Vietnam will invest VND1.115 trillion in a project to build and upgrade 20 old bridges in 9 provinces, said the Ministry of Transport.
Work on the project using loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is slated to start in January next year and to be completed in January 2012. (HCM City Law, Hanoi New)
