On the sideline of the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2010 on June 6-7 in Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) will organize the international conference themed “Enhancing Vietnam’s Competitiveness for Sustainable Development” in Ho Chi Minh City on June 5.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai will address the event’s keynote.
The side event will offer you an opportunity to discuss hot topics with government and business leaders and international renowned think tankers as well as to network with global and local CEOs who are passionate about revitalizing growth dynamism in East Asia and particularly Vietnam. It comprises of the two sessions.
Session 1: “Vietnam - Putting competitiveness at the heat of growth” is opened with a presentation on assessment findings of the Vietnam Competitiveness Report 2009 – 2010. The report was developed at the request of the Vietnamese Government and by a team of international experts from the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI – Singapore) and local researchers from the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), with technical guidance from Prof Michael Porter’s team in Harvard Business School.
Session 2: “Empowering Private Sector in Sustainable Development” will start by describing how enterprises in Vietnam perceive business conditions where they operate. VCCI’s Chairman and President, Dr. Vu Tien Loc will present voices of nearly 10,000 businesses across the nation on provincial business environment for private sector development. Views expressed by business community were highlighted in Vietnam’s Provincial Competitiveness Index Report 2009 and provided recommendations on how the government can better support business development in way that help improve living standard for all.
Developing from that background, panel discussion will be led by VCCI leader and CSR Asia and a group of businesses i.e. TBS, Holcim, Unilever, VNH, etc focusing on Promotion of Corporate Social Responsibility as a competitive advantage for future growth. Emphasis will put on how enterprises utilize their resources and capability to enhance their competitive advantages, thus maximizing their contribution to overarching goals of sustainable development.
