The Vietnam Architects Association (VAA) said the general meeting of the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA) in 2011 is set to take place in the Vietnamese central city of Da Nang from August 15 to 20, 2011.

The 16th meeting, themed “Asian Cities in the 21st Century”, is a forum for architects and planners in the region to exchange architectural ideas and urban planning to answer the following question: How to design and build a sustainable city with peculiar spirits and identities in the process of urbanisation and globalisation?

ARCASIA consists of all presidents of member architect associations, including Vietnam. The annual council meeting or ARCASIA forum is rotationally held in its member association nations.

Nguyen Tan Van, President of the Vietnam Architects Association (VAA), said “green architecture” will be one of important contents on this forum. The development of “green architecture” model in Vietnam is now in the initial stage but architects have shown their initiative for a modern, practical and global architectural trend. Currently, the “green architecture” councils are being established and new criteria of “green architecture” are expected to be devised.
