Foreign tourist arrivals to Hanoi are estimated to reach 2.58 million in 2013, a 12.2 percent rise against last year, according to the city Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Markets sending increasing numbers of tourists to Hanoi this year were China, Japan, Australia, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), the US and France. In addition, Hanoi greeted 14 million domestic tourists in 2013, up 11.3 percent over the previous year.
This year, Hanoi intensified promotion campaigns overseas, built new tourism products and improved local tourism infrastructure facilities, especially improving tourism environment.
The city was named among the top ten Asian tourism destinations in 2013 by Smart Travel Asia magazine. In addition, readers of the famous tourism website TripAdvisor voted Hanoi at 8th place out of 10 tourism destinations in the world. It came third in Asia, following Kathmandu in Nepal and Sapporo in Japan.
