The Department of Taxation of Son La province reported to collect VND2,173 billion for the State Budget in the first nine months of 2014, fulfilling 109.3 percent of the plan and rising 42.4 percent over the same period of 2013. Six district tax departments completed their targets three months ahead of time.
Hydropower plants paid VND1,212 billion in the reporting period, accounting for 50 percent. The collection from this sector surged because resource tax was raised from 2 percent to 4 percent, resulting in an increase of VND206 billion in tax revenue. Specifically, Son La hydropower plant added VND101 billion, Hoa Binh hydropower plant added VND85 billion, and other hydropower plants paid VND20 billion more. Foreign-invested Niken Ban Phuc paid VND16 billion of taxes in lieu of its contractors and VND18 billion for its specialists building Nikel plant.
However, it remained a challenge for the Son La Department of Taxation to achieve the target of VND2,350 billion in the remaining months of 2014. The department will continue to collect overdue taxes and prevent losses while accelerating administrative reform, applying information technology to tax administration in order to better serve online tax declaration and filing.
