Like other localities in Vietnam, Tien Giang province has also achieved positive outcomes in foreign affairs and international integration to contribute significantly to local socioeconomic development and bring Tien Giang to the group of best economic performers in the Mekong Delta region.

Mr.  Luu Van Phi, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, said the legal system for foreign affairs and international relations of Tien Giang province has been complete and synchronous.

In Party diplomacy and government diplomacy, the province contacted and held working meetings with political parties in other countries, especially neighboring countries, and traditional friends such as the Communist Party of China, the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the Cambodian People's Party. Party diplomacy has helped create a reliable and solid political foundation to foster State diplomacy and expand people-to-people diplomacy. In State diplomacy, the province established friendly cooperation with authorities of localities and agencies in other countries such as Pursat province - Cambodia, Khammouane province - Laos, Maputo province - Mozambique, Ministry of Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries Mozambique, and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

In people-to-people diplomacy, Tien Giang leaders gave guidance, encouraged social and political organizations and mass organizations to strengthen cooperation with external bodies to inform and introduce Party policies and State laws on social and economic development and territorial sovereignty to international friends; exchanged experience in human resource education and training, healthcare, agricultural and rural development, disaster prevention, climate change response, urbanization, and investment - trade - tourism promotion. At the same time, the province took advantage of foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to carry out various welfare programs and projects in poor localities in the province. Tien Giang also called foreign volunteers to teach English, Japanese, Korean, information technology, electronics and mechanics for students at local universities and colleges, helping equip them with necessary skills and knowledge to join the international labor market in Vietnam and the world.

Phi said that, in all aspects of operation, economic diplomacy has been of great concern for Tien Giang province and produced outstanding results. Investment promotion has always been paid much attention by establishing and maintaining meetings with diplomatic missions, business associations and FDI investors. The Provincial People's Committee hosted many forums to have direct and frank discussions and exchanges on policy issues and meetings with foreign partners, investors and businesses to help them better understand the province’s potential advantages, investment opportunities, incentive policies, investment procedures and industrial zone development.

In the 2016-2020 period, Tien Giang has welcomed more than 800 foreign delegations, including 64 large international delegations, to work with provincial leaders. Cultural exchange has also been expanded and diversified thanks to positive impacts of inbound and outbound activities. The province has also gradually strengthened cultural integration with other countries by organizing arts performance exchanges with India, South Korea and Japan. Since 2016, the province has cooperated with diplomatic missions of foreign countries to successfully organize cultural and arts exchange events to consolidate a spiritual foundation for deeper and more practical economic integration of the province.

Foreign affairs in other fields such as education and training, foreign workers and overseas nationals also achieved very encouraging results. This is a solid foundation for Tien Giang to further improve the effectiveness of external relations and international integration in 2020-2025, thus creating a peaceful, stable and favorable environment for the province's socioeconomic development.
