Quang Tri to Boost Industrial Development

In the end of November and beginning of December, Quang Tri Province has started the construction of many industrial works to welcome its fourteenth Communist Party Congress. For instance, a beer plant is to be built with capacity of 15 million liters per annum in the Quan Ngang Industrial park, Dong Ha Cement Plant built with capacity of 250,000 tons per year. Meanwhile, investment capital poured into the Lao Bao Economic Zone reached more than VND500 billion. This signal promises new development in the industry sector of the province.

 

In last 15 years, Quang Tri knows well that industry plays an important position in its development process. Resolutions in every party congress have highlighted the role of the sector. The province, therefore, has developed the industry to a new height.

Over the past five years, industrial production grew by 19 per cent on average. Production of construction material and agro-fisheries-forestry processing made major contribution to the industry. Planning and policymaking have been strongly developed. Many industrial production projects have been built at the Lao Bao Economic Zone, South Dong Ha and Quan Ngang Industrial Parks, and some other locations in the province. New products have been accepted in the market. Some traditional industries have been recovered and developed.

 

The mobilized capital to build infrastructure projects has also increased, helping change the economic structure effectively.

In the 14^th Party Congress, Quang Tri considers industrial development will be the main task and the first priority of the industrialization and modernization process, which will create a motive for the economic restructure and development. The province will concentrate on investing in developing infrastructure in the Lao Bao Economic Zone, industrial complexes in districts and communes. It will also make use of its available advantages to develop construction material, agro-fisheries-forestry processing, mechanical and electronic installment industries. The province will also carry out mineral exploitation to provide materials to industries. In addition, it will build and repair fishing boats and transport means, finishing the Quang Tri irrigation-power plant.

 

Experience from many provinces shows that in industrial development, propaganda to encourage development of industries and handicrafts plays an important role in production. Therefore, besides industrial expansion promotion program, the province has further advertised, and called for investment in the industry sector. Quang Tri has mobilized a large amount of capital, including foreign invested capital.

 

In the process of international economic integration, it is necessary to encourage enterprises in the province to increase investment and improve technology, apply new techniques and information technology into production. In fact, not many businesses have put eyes to build their trademark. The trademark, prestige, and application of international quality management system will help strengthen the competitiveness of their products in both the domestic and international market. Companies should also concentrate on training their staff and workers in order to meet requirements of the economic restructure process.

Quang Tri knows that, to develop economic it needs to comprehensively develop all industries. But to boost economic growth, there is no way but to give priority to develop industry. The province targets industry-construction sectors to account for 33-35 per cent of industrial production. Therefore, the Party Congress resolution requires the province to strongly promote industrial development growth, in the short term to develop existing industrial parks, give priority to industries that use the material available in the province. Once industry developed, economic structure will be changed, economy will be developed, people will be provided with more jobs. It will ensure the province develops fully and in a stable manner, enabling it to escape poverty by the end of the first decade of the new millennium.
