The Hanoi capital city needs around VND8.7 trillion ($546 million) to bury the entire local power cable network from now to 2010, the Hanoi People’s Committee said.

It is under the city’s just approved master plan for electricity network development in the 2006-2010, towards 2015.

The project is aimed to place underground all the power cable networks in the new urban zones in the city, the local authorities said, adding the city targets to raise the rate of underground power lines to 70-80 per cent from the current 40 per cent.

The new system is said to cost five times higher than the open-air electricity one.
