Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung authorized Thang Long Cement JS Co to carry out a 300-megawatt thermal power plant instead of 50-MW power plant in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
PM Dung also assigned the Industry Ministry to instruct and supervise the firm’s implementing the work. The plant is to be built in the province’s Hoanh Bo district, however the capital source is not yet known.
In the same move, the Vietnamese government leader also okayed a loan guarantee for the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group’s (Vinacomin) with its Chinese partner to jointly carry out another thermal power plant with annual capacity of 220MW, at total cost of US$207 million, in Bac Giang province.
Once operational, the plant will generate about 1.2 billion kWh of electricity for the national power grid.
