An ecological tourism complex and 36-hole golf course worth VND20 trillion (US$1.25 billion) in total are expected to be put into operation in the capital city of Hanoi in 2010, an official from the project investor Vincom Joint Stock Company said.
The land area being surveyed for the tourism complex and golf course covers 528 hectares and is located between two important bridges crossing the Red River – the Vinh Tuy and Thanh Tri bridges.
This is alluvial land on the Red River bank, currently being used for cultivation with no infrastructure items, including a water drainage system.
Vincom has promised to spend the capital to turn the alluvial land, belonging to the Long Bien, Cu Khoi, Thach Ban, wards in Long Bien district and Dong Du commune in Gia Lam district on the outskirts of Hanoi, into a luxurious ecological tourism complex and golf course by 2010.
The company plans to build several low buildings using light materials on this area, like the 36-hole golf course, gold club house, parking area, tennis courts, swimming pool, a culinary area, which will feature cuisine of the three regions in Vietnam, and another area providing specialty dishes of Vietnam and other countries in the world. There will also be an ornamental plant area and a bird garden.
Vincom is also planning to build a series of other solid works, when the Ordinance on Dykes and Dyke maintenance is adjusted and the land area is no longer in the corridor for flood drainage. These will include restaurants, bars, supermarkets, news and souvenir stalls, hotel, houseboats, villas and houses with gardens.
The year 2007 will be spent on procedures including obtaining licenses and site clearance, the official said, noting that if everything goes as scheduled, the project will be kicked off in April 2008.
The golf course and ecological tourism complex would be one of the key attractions under the city’s plan to become Asia’s most popular destination, municipal authorities revealed.
By late 2005, Vietnam had more than ten operational golf courses and 13 others under construction. (Pioneer, Vietnam Panorama)
