Khanh Hoa province, although small in area, is endowed with many picturesque landscapes : beautiful beaches of Dai Lanh, Doc Let, Bai Tru, Nha Trang, famous gulfs of Van Phong and Cam Ranh.
Hon Tam
Hon Tam Island is an attractive place for sea-tourism with natural wilderness and green forests for four seasons, peaceful waves and a romantic winding coastline, beautiful beaches and 20 bungalows looking out to the sea. In particular, Hon Tam tourist centre has three restaurants, serving up to 1,000 customers, offering special dishes ranging from traditional to high-quality seafood. Visitors who like daring sports can participate in sea diving, catching a bird’s eye view of Hon Tam from flying parachutes, or racing on the surface with jet-skis. They can also play beach volleyball, kayak, climb mountains or just sunbath and watch the blue sky and sea waves.
Hon Chong
Hon Chong, Vinh Phuoc ward is a famous landscape in Nha Trang city. It consists of two reefs at the foot of Lasan hill. The bigger reef is Hon Chong (Husband), a square rock facing the sea in the shape of a huge hand on the surface. According to legend, a giant sat fishing on the rock, a big fish pulled the fishing line to the sea, the giant grasped the rock and pulled back, forming the rock into the shape of his hand. The second reef is in the shape of a woman looking to the sea and it is called the Wife reef. From the top of the Husband reef, visitors can see the blue sky and sea, to distant Hon Yen. On the far right is Cau Da port, Hon Tre and Nha Trang’s 6 km coastline covered with green coconuts and sea pines on the white sand. Behind Lasan hill is busy Cu Lao fish port, and the Nha Trang river mouth opens to the sea.
Nha Trang gulf
Protected by 19 big and small islands, 500 sq. km Nha Trang gulf of is safe from strong wind and waves. The Cai river mouth is bordered on both sides with fine sand beaches 6 to 7 km long. Under the tropical sunlight, the blue mountain range, distant islands and clear water make the yellow sand beaches more seducing with white waves. In Nha Trang gulf, there are nearly a dozen islands with a special product, bird nests. The province earns some million dollars yearly from bird nests. The gulf is also famous for 350 kinds of corals, 190 kinds of fish, shell fish and sea weed. Since December 2000, Hon Mun sea reserve, the first of its kind in Vietnam, has been protected by decision of the Prime Minister.
Tri Nguyen Fish Lake
The lake is 2 km South of Nha Trang seaport, on Tri Nguyen Island. It is a fascinating place to camp, fish and visit the fishing village. In 1997, Khanh Hoa Tourist Company invested VND10 billion to turn Tri Nguyen fish lake into an aquarium in the shape of an ancient ship with three floors : the first floor for raising fish, the second for souvenir shops, and the third for restaurants. Tri Nguyen aquarium began operating in 1999. To attract more visitors, Tri Nguyen aquarium has added more buildings and facilities.
In the aquarium, visitors can watch Japanese carp, Napoleon and Picasso fish, or visit an open-air pond and try some fishing. 500 metres away is Bai San beach, an ideal place for camping and sitting around a fire. Visitors can also join island tours visiting fishing villages and tasting fresh sea foods.
Ponaga tower
Ponaga tower is in Cu Lao village, Vinh Phuoc ward, Nha Trang City. It was built on a marble hill, 10 metres above sea level, North of the Cai river mouth and South of Bong fishing village. The place is believed to have been a training site for virgin dancers for Ba tower ceremonies.
Ba tower complex consists of six kalan towers, a shrine and supporting buildings. Ba tower is the biggest and most beautiful tower, typical of Cham architecture. Due to the damages of erosion, only four towers and two rows of brick pillars at the foot of the hill remain. The four towers are Principal Tower, South Tower, South-East and North-West temples, each built in a different shape and at a different time. All the towers are brick, with various motifs in stone and ceramic.
On the 22nd day of Third lunar month, a celebration is held in Ba tower with tens of thousands of participants from both Cham and Viet nationalities, joining in traditional ceremonies and dances.
Long Son pagoda
The pagoda is located inside Nha Trang city, South East of Highway 1A, at the foot of Trai Thuy mount and in thick foliage ensuring its serenity and tranquillity.
It is the biggest pagoda in Nha Trang and also the Buddhist Institute of Central Vietnam. From Long Son pagoda, visitors can go up hill to Hai Duc pagoda and then to the big Buddha statue on the hilltop. The big pagoda, with adjourning buildings under tall banyan trees, creates a quiet and legendary site. In particular, from the pagoda, visitors have a beautiful view of Nha Trang with greenery, rows of coconut trees, rivers and the sea. The pagoda is an attraction to visitors as well as photographers at home and abroad.
